Victoria Craig has been involved with training dogs her entire life. As a child her family bred, raised and competed with various sporting and working breeds. In particular,
they had English Setters, German Shorthair Pointers and Golden Retrievers. Victoria
gained the love of competitive dog events at an early age. Her first competition was at a local dog show in the small town
where she grew up. She was 5 years old.
Now,
Victoria trains and competes in dog sports, predominantly agility. She runs her Border Collie Weaver and her Boston Terrier
Emily both in the sport. Emily's competing is split between advanced and masters level of agility in the Agility Association
of Canada having achieved both her SADC and her SGDC, while Weaver is competing mainly in masters level competition. Luka, her oldest Boston Terrier did compete at one time, however due to failing eye
sight and arthritis he has had to retire to the sidelines(except for the occasional fun run!). Victoria has also competed
in CKC obedience events and in the Canine Good Neighbour certification.
Victoria
has attended several workshops with internationally known training and behaviour experts, including several behaviour and
aggression workshops with Brenda Aloff, impulse control with Cheryl Bartlett and agility and sports psychology seminars 2004
IFCS World Champion Kathy Keats. Victoria regularly trains in agility under Julie Lizotte, former AAC National
Champion. Victoria has also attended the Canine Behaviour Workshop and Canine Temperament Evaluation through the Pet Industry
Joint Advisory Council.
Attending
seminars and workshops with internationally reputed training experts has allowed Victoria to keep abreast of the latest training
techniques and philosophies. Victoria is dedicated to continuing her education so that she will always be aware of the new
discoveries that go on in the field of dog training.
Victoria
was the Executive Director for 2 years at the Moncton SPCA and gained a true understanding of the need for good fundamental
training for families and their dogs. Through that experience she has gained
valuable knowledge and insight into a variety of dog-related issues that people have and reasons why they often feel forced
give up their pets.
Victoria
has also been involved in animal rescue, testing temperaments and placing dogs. Several of the dogs that live in her house
are rescues who came to her as adults. Some of the dogs she has are those that others had given up hope for any
rehabilitation. Weaver, in particular, has been the greatest challenge posed.
He has many issues that are ongoing and require constant management, but it is through him that she experienced all different
sorts of training methods and theories. He is now a talented agility competitor and a wonderful house dog and faithful
companion. After trying many different ways, she believes in using positive reinforcement to create the behaviours she as
well as owners is looking for.
Her
goal is to help people and animals live in harmony together. She believes that if owners can learn to effectively communicate
with their pets as well as socialize them appropriately, they can alleviate a whole lifetime worth of problems and have the
relationship they desire.
Victoria
has a well rounded level of knowledge and experience to deal with many training issues including, but not limited to, aggression
and guarding, lack of motivation, high drive intensity, reactivity, and communication.
By teaching you the best ways to communicate with your dog, with
fairness and understanding always a priority, she guarantees a happier dog as well as a happier owner. Victoria will help
develop a road to success.
